Even then I cycle the Bible up to the top. Something about putting the Bible under other books just bothers me

You know the Service brochures they hand out on Sunday mornings? Ours has the whole liturgy printed upon it, including the Scripture readings. Well one day my priest said to me how uncomfortable he was, with printing the Scripture verses on that disposable paper, which people would then crumple and throw in the trash. He said it felt incredibly disrespectful and impious to God’s Word. Instead he would have the verses emblazoned with gold letters on some imperishable medium, so that we’d all look up at it together, rather than finding flimsy and despicable thin little strips of paper that afterward were good for nothing but the trash.

So it’s all in the eye of the beholder. There is no objective “reverence” test. Whatever the context we find ourselves in, we all should elevate the Scripture above other things in our lives.
