An Anglican said "Are we sure, That Heaven is worth waiting for? I can't say "Oh, well, I'll settle for Hell, If it doesn't exist any more" [Adrian Plass, A Year at St Yorick's]
Hmmm.... From Wikipedia: The noun used for the Spirit of God in Genesis—"Ruach"—is distinctly feminine, as is the verb used to describe the Spirit's activity during creation—"rachaph"—translated as "fluttereth". This verb is used only one other place in the Bible (Deuteronomy 32:11) where it describes the action of a mother eagle towards her nest. The consistent use of feminine nouns and verbs to refer to the Spirit of God in the Torah, as well as the rest of the Jewish Scriptures, indicates that at least this aspect of Elohim was consistently perceived as feminine. Genesis 1:26–27 says that humans were made male and female in the image of elohim. Sources: - Sexism is a Sin, by J.R. Hyland - Coogan, Michael (October 2010). "6. Woman is not an imperfect man. Man is not perfectly complete. Together, we complete the image of God in us. .
This is correct, and a lot of poor theology and anthropology has been built on this misapprehension. This is an awkward expression and is not something I think we would say. No Man (or Woman) is perfect. This seems like poorly constructed theology. The only complete image of God was Jesus of Nazareth, and he alone, and not in the context of his relationships with Mary his Mother, Mary from Magdala, but of himself was God with skin on. We are enriched in our relationships, and that makes sense for people who believe God is Trinity and that we all, Men and Women, are created equally in the image and after the likeness of God. We are created relational beings. In relationships, we (should) better reflect the image and likeness of God.
How about, "Adam was no longer complete without Eve. He was always missing one of his ribs, (or a whole side of himself)" and God declared both of their original conditions, "Good". Eve was so much a part of Adam that she could never be regarded as inferior to him. Such an attitude would imply God had created imperfection. After the fall they had BOTH fallen, not just woman, and the disrution of relationships we now experience, (without Christ within us), is a consequence of 'disobedience to God', not the will of God. Both, man and womankind are restored in equal relationship in Christ as friends and partners, not merely as master and servant. .
So is Mark 12:25 also illogical, because it suggests that angels in 'heaven' are also either male and female or neither male or female, explaining perhaps why they do not marry, just as human beings, male or female, apparently become in heaven, and so also do not need marriage. You would need to argue the supposed 'illogicality' of such a statement from our Lord with the THREE evangelists who seemed to think the logic perfectly sound enough to record Jesus having said it, for us all to read. I don't think it is much of a stretch of the imagination to conceive that God, who is SPIRIT is also not 'married' and maybe for the same reason that angels and human beings in heaven are not married. .
Simple answer: that will be then, but this is now. In the here and now, we are male or female, and we are supposed to act in accordance with the gender we were given in the foreknowledge and design of God.
You continue to conflate sex with gender, which are not the same. But one thing you imply is that gender is merely a phenomenon of the flesh, which will pass away. The spiritual, eternal part of us is not bound by such binary strictures. Why so much focus then on the passing flesh? Why are people so invested in what gender other people identify as? Getting gender identity "right" will not save a soul. Perhaps as people who live according to the Spirit, we should set our minds on the things of the Spirit.
There's no such thing as gender; this is only a term in linguistics to denote subsets of words in languages. Humans have a sex.
