here we are at least agreed Conservative Inc. would have hated such a clearly un-American figure as Jesus.
Some of the Republican debate has been re-launched in Australia, and we have appointed an 'Assistant Minister for the Republic' as a Cabinet Position. As there is no Minister as such it would seem he is assisting no one, and as of yet there is no republic here, it would seem he is assisting no one in the matter of nothing. Whilst I am not an ardent Royalist, I do believe that the crown is the people's best defence against the tyranny of Parliament.
Assistant Minister, in that context, is the new name for "Parliamentary Secretary". A few years ago some egotistical ParlSecs started complaining that people in foreign countries thought they were "secretaries" and so demanded a name change. I suppose Turnbull figured if he was going to get knifed it wasn't going to be over a ministerial title, so now they're called "Assistant Ministers". They're just ministers without a department. There's no "Department for the Republic" so they're an assistant minister, not a minister. The whole thing is a procedural farce. How one can be go to work every day claiming they are the crown's representative against the crown I will never know. "I Matt Thistlewaite do solemnly swear to defend the monarchy...by bringing in a republic".
Not to make a meme post too political - but only America could make a policy based around using market-driven insurance products "leftist".
Touché @ZachT And only an Australian could call something mandated by law, subsidized by tax dollars, and regulated and restricted by local, state, and federal bureaucrats "market-driven".
