My edited thoughts on Tract 90 and Mr. Newman's interpretations of the 39 Articles. Contained therein is a commentary on Article 22, related to the discussion on saints on the other thread. I post here the conclusion to my article, which could easily serve as an introduction as well: http://thehackneyhub.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-destructive-influence-of-tract-90.html "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."
Hackey, I've read the article; I think it's very pertinent. What happened with the Tractarian Movement is that Anglicanism acquired a new split loyalty: a loyalty which had nothing to do with English theologians, or historical Anglican views. People who gave birth to this alien loyalty by now have died, and their descendants have never not had the view they do. Holding them responsible for the problems that Newman caused would probably be misplaced. They probably think Tract 90 was a wonderful idea.
