I love Solemn Evensong that is chanted to plainchant from the 1662 or 1962 BCP, how many others like this service?
I miss a good Evensong. Unfortunately my rural Parish Church only holds the service occasionally these days. A couple of times a month I go to our Cathedral Church where Solemn Evensong is sung on the eve of a class one or two feast day or class one/two feast day falling on Sunday. I particularly like the mid-week Evensongs as the congregation gets to sit in the Canon's stalls......makes me feel quite monastic. It'll soon be time for Nine Lessons and Carols which I particularly look forward to. It's de rigeur in my Diocese as the tradition was started here by +Benson. Like Hackney, I draw the line at Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
The chant is beautiful for evensong, especially as it is very contemplative. Though I have never experienced it myself, God has blessed me with a few YouTube videos that somewhat capture its spirit and essence. One good example is this:
