    ive never before heard him called a saint. When and by whom was he canonised?

    He was canonized by the Church of England in 1662. The argument was that he was a martyr as his insistence on the episcopacy played a huge role in his execution. He was not a great king but was a devout Christian and a firm churchman. There is a society devoted to his commemoration in the church calendar. http://skcm.org/about-s-charles/
