I've been to S. America twice. This was the most memorable location. It is in the mountain rim that surrounds the main part of Bogota, Colombia. This was, at the time, considered the most dangerous neighborhood of Bogota. The local sponsors had chartered a bus but at a certain point it no longer had the power to get up the road. We disembarked and hiked the last half mile to this parish church. The door was left open to give some ventilation and stray dogs were wandering in and out. We had a prayer service and then the Archbishop blessed the grounds on which the church stood. Then we walked a couple of blocks to someone's home where there was some soup and chicken for us to eat. So we walked around this neighborhood quite a lot and all of the gangsters and drug dealers showed us deference.
