Recently I was asked why I was not a member of another Church? I was grateful for the question, simply because it allowed me to reflect on things I love about the Anglican Church. I love: Our capacity for unity in diversity which Anglicanism embraces The centrality we see in faith The intrinsic decency and order of the way we do liturgy Our commitment to Scripture, Tradition and Reason That we are Catholic and Reformed Our commitment to the historic episcopate Our motto - ‘the truth will set you free’ The Prayer of Humble Access The Collect for Purity Our great tradition of profound scholarship Our readiness to learn from others without being threatened. Our robust ability to laugh at ourselves Our great tradition of music and hymns The meaning of our Compass Rose That we are the Church of Alban, Botolph, Augustine, Bede, Stigand, Anselm, Cranmer, Parker, Ellis, Laud, Wesley, Keble, Fisher, Ramsey, and lots of others. That we are not perfect - yet. I do hope that people will add things to this list.
The beauty of the Book of Common Prayer. The language, so rolling and rich, is like a warm blanket wrapped around us. It is a source of comfort and continuity.
