This extraordinary icon was painted (or "written" for the purists!) by Sister Joanna Reitlinger (1989-1988), an artist who lived and worked in France during the 20th century, and was active among Russian Orthodox emigré circles. The principal icons in the old chapel of the Monastery of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God (Bussy en Othe) are her work. The Gospel is inscribed with the latter part of John 15:5 (He that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit, for without Me ye can do nothing.). This reproduction was a gift from one of the priests of the parish of St Seraphim, Rue Lecourbe, Paris back in 2010.
Very beautiful. What is the item next to it? If that's a coin I'm very impressed! Great choice for the Gospel as well.
