1 John 5:16

    Most Protestants say this passage means that someone does not commit sin unto death if he sins and repents, since sin unto death involves hardness of heart and absence of repentance. Yet, I've heard some Catholics saying this means that someone should not pray for forgiveness if they committed mortal sin because these sins require special absolution to a priest i.e.; making reference to mortal vs. venial sin. What can you say about this?
