I know this is from a Lutheran blog, but I think this is an excellent critique of the evangelical penchant for "deciding for Christ" or "inviting Christ into one's heart". Our Lord counters: "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him." https://www.google.com/amp/s/reform...09/lutheran-pietism-v-lutheran-orthodoxy/amp/
I have been thinking a lot about Pietism and feel like they're a major contributor to the decline of Protestantism and Christianity in general... This emphasis on the emotional and away from the doctrinal begins with them The Lutheran Orthodox have suffered the most from them but then it spilled over into the rest of Christendom. How affected would you say is today's conservative Lutheran world (LCMS, etc) with the pietist tendency which by now has a 'historic lutheran' pedigree?
Great insight. I myself see a need for balance. Too much detatched doctrinalism leads to a dry, tasteless imitation of a life of faith. Too much pietism untethered to the bedrock of scriptural authority leads to an aimless, anythibg goes feelgoodism lacking substance and, often, basic logic.
