Friends, Per the suggestion of Incense and other non-Anglican Christians who aren't familiar with all the terms we use... Let's create a list of the most common acronyms and abbreviations used by Anglicans. Maybe the ADMIN can create a sticky thread some day for newcomers, if we work hard enough! Here's an initial list arranged alphabetically. PLEASE SUGGEST ADDITIONS. ~ ABC - Archbishop of Canterbury, the primate of the Anglican Communion & center of unity ACA - Anglican Church in America ACC - Anglican Consultative Council, an quasi-governing body of the Communion, or: ACC - Anglican Catholic Church ACoC - Anglican Church of Canada ACNA - Anglican Church in North America, offshoot of TEC, not in Communion with ABC AMiA - Anglican Mission in America APA - Anglican Province of America APCK - Anglican Province of Christ the King AV - Authorized Version, another name for the KJV BCP - Book of Common Prayer, our book of services, petitions & thanksgivings to almighty God CANA - Convocation of Anglicans in North America C. of E. - Church of England ECUSA - Episcopal Church of the United States of America - see: TEC EP - Evening Prayer, or Evensong HC - Holy Communion HE - Holy Eucharist KJV - King James Version, an Anglican translation of the Bible MP - Morning Prayer, or Mattins PECUSA - Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, older name for TEC REC - Reformed Episcopal Church, offshoot of TEC, not in Communion with ABC RSV - Revised Standard Version, a modern translation of the Bible S&B - Smells & Bells, a reference to the incense and sanctus bells used in Anglo-Catholic worship TAC - Traditional Anglican Communion TEC - The Episcopal Church (of the United States of America) WO - Womens' Ordination, or Ordination of Women to the clergy
That was really helpful! thanks a lot! I guess the BCP is book of common prayer? (yes me can be smart sometimes )
APA- Anglican Province of America TAC- Traditional Anglican Communion AMiA- Anglican Mission in America APCK- Anglican Province of Christ the King ACA- Anglican Church in America
Variations of TEC... PECUSA (Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America), or just ECUSA. Also there's the DFMS (Domestic and Foreign Mission Society).
How can that be differentiated from the Anglican Church of Canada & the Anglican Consultative Council? We'll need definitions next to each of these! It'll become a whole dictionary before long!
You forgot (ANiC) Anglican Network in Canada which is in communion with ABC through the Southern Cone Primate Hector Tito Zavala. Also BAS (Book of Alternative Services) and ER (English Ritual)
