Of course it would, but if my rector was not following the Prayer Book, he wouldn't be Anglican, which is much bigger of a deal.

I understand what you're saying. And of course if you're Anglican, you would want the rector to be following the Prayer Book. That is important.

What's more important to me, however, is that the rector is following the Christian faith.

I am going to jump back into this thread.

Many traditions have sprouted from the seed "to follow the Christian faith." And those traditions have blossoms of many colors, shapes, sizes, texture, etc. And many traditions sprouted because some person or group have come to the conclusion that they have the true Christian faith. Blah--Blah--Blah. . .

The Book of Common Prayer and Anglican liturgy offer something of great value (in my humble opinion). If only we will follow it, instead of trying to change it.

I agree. Follow it, yes, but more importantly, believe it.

Your using red herring here to avoid discussing the fact that most ACNA clergy do not follow the Prayer Book.

I thought Anglican-ness came with being in Communion with the primacy that is the Church of England. If that's not the case, there are almost no Anglicans in Canada - because with the exception of a few dioceses, the "Book of Alternative Services" is universal, and the BCP is seen as archaic.

It's about using authorized liturgies, not making it up as you go along.

I don't know what "most" ACNA clergy do, and I don't care. I am discussing a principle.

You're discussing an irrelevant point. Of course it matters that a priest be creedally orthodox and of course meaningful services are desired but neither of those things makes us Anglican.

Couldn't have put it better myself!

I would not say that. Are there any studies that show this is the case? Of course one can find an outlier in any group of people, but the information I've personally seen points to the opposite:
    • all ACNA parishes I've seen use the 1928, and use it 'fiercely' one might say.
    • even more importantly, more talk has come out of Abp Duncan and the ACNA College of Bishops about old Anglican formularies than has been heard in TEC in a hundred years.
    • Gafcon endorses the 1662, which is the only BCP to have been endorsed in the Gafcon founding documents.
    • these facts are not something to sneeze on.

    • I've never been to an ACNA parish that consistently uses any Prayer Book.
    • Bob Duncan gives lip service to the Formularies so that Gafcon will recognize his schism. Personally, I have heard much more about the Articles in TEC than I ever did in ACNA.
    • The Jerusalem Statement does strongly affirm 1662, ACNA does not.

There are ACoC churches that use the BCP, but are pro same-sex marriage, so I agree with you Celtic1

Though I do prefer the 1662/1962 prayer books, I am waiting to see what the ACNA prayerbook will look like.

    Orthodoxy is never irrelevant.

Tell me, is Gene Robinson an Anglican, or even Christian?

No he is not either, I don't believe. But then again, you are trying to avoid addressing the real issue by creating all of these irrelevant points. The issue is ACNA clergy not using the Prayer Book. Answer that. Don't try and change the subject.

Another question is why do the ACNA clergy not use the BCP?

Maybe they think the 1979 is rubbish, but that it would somehow be 'too archaic' to utilize 1928? Perhaps they just want their own unique prayer book to call their own? There are so many possibilities. Best just ask one of them - or, better yet, stay in the Episcopal Church and try to reform it as a virtuous Christian soldier. :)

I am afraid to say, but I think ACNA is more about personal gain of the clergy drawn to ACNA than anything else.
