Today, Sunday 6th February 2022, is the seventieth anniversary of the accession to the throne of HM The Queen [of the UK and other realms]. The Church of England's (I don't know about other Anglican churches) Book of Common Prayer has an Accession Service to be celebrated "... upon the Anniversary of the day of the Accession of the Reigning Sovereign ...". I had suggested to our priest we have such a service today but he wouldn't agree. We had Mass as usual with The Queen mentioned in the Prayer of the Faithful. Did anyone in a parish in the UK or in one of the other countries of which HM The Queen have this service? I have never suggested it before but I thought it fitting on this anniversary.
I didn't see this when it was relevant - but yes, we had an Accession service at the Cathedral. None of the surrounding parishes did their own as far as I'm aware, but I think every parish directed those interested to the cathedral. I assume most will do something later in the year when we do the actual celebrations. Naturally the service is quite reserved as it's also the service in memory of George VI's death.
