Hi Madeline I have just discovered the BBC Radio 4 In Our Time Religion podcasts and have started listening to them in the car on the way TP and from work - the ones I have listened to so far have all been interesting - some better than others. I have the Margery Kempe one lined up to listen to next week. So will let you know what I think of it.
Hi Madeline I listened to the podcast today. I found it fascinating. I knew nothing about Margery Kempe before your post. Quite amazing how the book was discovered in the 30s. You really can't imagine a woman at that time travelling across countries on her own. I think I'd also like to read a little more about that period of history and the Lollards.
I'm glad you found it interesting, Christina. Margery had amazing faith and courage. I hope the podcast about the Great Schism is just as good.
I read a short bio about her in the book "The Way of the English Mystics". What a great holy life. I never knew of such deep spirituality in the Anglican Christian realm. She and others like Richard Rolle are very reminiscent of great Eastern Orthodox saints...
I shall have a listen to that one as well. I have started listening to podcasts, instead of the radio, on my way to and from work - I'm really enjoying it.
It's good to have a respite from the news! I have become a big fan of audiobooks and my next one is "Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes: Removing Cultural Blinders to Better Understanding the Bible". Please let me know, Christina, if you come across any podcasts that you'd recommend.
Me neither. I shall search up some information on him. I am just about to start listening to a podcast on the Pelagian controversy. Have you listened to that one? If not I'll let you know how I find it. I've just finished listening to the podcast in the same series on Wyclif and the Lollards, which was interesting and, as well as the Schism, I have lined up podcasts on St Hilda, The Lindisfarne Gospels and the Venerable Bede. I love history, so tend to find most historical topics fascinating.
