This evening being Palm Sunday, I "took the bull by the horns" and attended an evening service in a local Church of Ireland. There were some lovely Gospel readings and beautiful singing of bright melodies while people clapped and waved their arms in the air. If I'd closed my eyes I could've imagined myself in an arena anywhere. There was nothing which I perceived to be Anlican or Catholic! However, I did take home a book of common prayer which I look forward to perusing

Yeah too many services these days are neither anglican nor catholic these days.
I do hope you will find the book of common prayer a blessing however. Perhaps you
went to a youth service in the evenings?
    That's quite likely

Maybe it was a contemporary service (which I can never understand its need). Try a nearby Anglo catholic parish.

It was not a youth service but the usual Sunday evening service. I think an Anglo-Catholic congregation would be hard to find in N Ireland

Does not sound like an Anglican or Catholic service. Just because it calls itself Anglican or Catholic does not make it so.

    Blessings

I still maintain that it was probably a contemporary evening service and certainly not an authentic Palm Sunday liturgy.

Many ancient churches water down their services, especially evenings and weekdays, in misguided efforts of appealing to young people.

I have discovered that Armagh Cathedral, the Primates See has a traditional service each Sunday at 10. I live quite close and hope to attend soon

I think that will be more like how an Anglican service is supposed to be. Try to attend an Evensong service in England at some point, you will not leave as an unchanged man!

Thanks for the advice but I live in N Ireland. Perhaps Armagh Cathedral Church has such a service
